After being home for 3 weeks, catching up with family and friends again, we were super excited to start our adventure in Sri Lanka. Being home was very emotional but made us realize again how short life is and that we have to enjoy it as much as possible.
How was our trip through Sri Lanka, what were the most memorable moments and what’s on the planning for month 7 of our world trip? You read it all here.

10 days Belgium
The first 10 days of month 6 count towards the total 3 weeks we have been home. April 1 we had our flight back from Amsterdam to Sri Lanka where you can read the rest of our trip below.
21 days Sri Lanka
We spent 21 days in total in Sri Lanka, which is the perfect amount to explore all the main highlights. We had an amazing time, did several safari trips in Yala National Park and Udawalawe National Park, took surf lessons, witnessed turtles laying their eggs on the beach and took the most beautiful train ride in the world from Ella to Kandy.
We definitely come back someday to visit even more of this beautiful country!
From Ella to Kandy was one of the most breathtaking train rides we have ever done but unfortunately due to the Sri Lankan New Year most of the shops and sights were closed.
So we decided to go to Sigiriya for a few days to visit the Pidurangala Rock, where we had an amazing view on the famous Lion Rock. The day after we joined a safari in Minneriya National Park and saw hunderds of Elephants.
When we came back to Mahagedara Wellness Retreat, we noticed that Valerie forgot her glasses in Ella and we decided to go back. Because of the time and distance, almost 500km, we took a private driver to bring us all the way back to Ella and the friendly owners of Lahiru Homestay helped us with that.
The ride to Ella took almost 5-6 hours, so we just relaxed the rest of the day and picked up the glasses. As we already visited Ella, we didn’t have the plan to stay longer, so we went back to Weligama the next morning.
In Weligama we just enjoyed the beach, relaxed and did some surfing and made a plan to go to Hikkaduwa to spent our last days in Sri Lanka over there.
At the end of our Sri Lanka trip, we went back to the beaches of Hikkaduwa. at the moment we were on the train to Hikkaduwa a local guy told us not to go to Colombo ( he thought we are going to the airport), at that moment we didn’t realize anything but once we arrived in our homestay the owner explained what happened. OMG, we were shocked! The whole country was shocked and we couldn’t believe it happened right next to us.
We stayed in Hikkaduwa for 3 days, we met two lovely German girls were we spend some time with and then headed back to the airport to fly to our next destination. The Maldives!
We are going to celebrate our birthdays in the Maldives for a week, Valerie is turning 30! and afterward, we still need to decide where we are going to, so stay tuned.

What’s on the planning for month 7?
We fly to a destination that’s on everyone’s bucket list, the Maldives and we will spend a week there to celebrate our birthday. For those who don’t know, Mik’s birthday is 25 April and Valerie’s is 27 April :). After the Maldives, we still need to decide which destination we want to visit but we have the Philippines in mind.
