We’re always on the run searching for extraordinary and special places to stay around the world, no matter where we are. Places that are not just a room with breakfast, but a whole experience. Places you need to see once in your lifetime too! And Desert Luxury Camp in the Sahara Desert is one of them. Glamping in the sand dunes of the Sahara desert, while experiencing the luxury of a hotel in combination with the freedom of nature. Are you planning a trip to Morocco? Read on…
The location of Desert Luxury Camp
Desert Luxury Camp is located deep in the silent dunes of Erg Chebbi with no other camps or no other tourists in proximity. The camp can only be reached by foot, camel, a 4WD or helicopter. The nearest village is Merzouga, a small little village with only a few shops, a local mechanic and a gas station. Merzouga is known for its location near the Erg Chebbi dunes. Those sand dunes are a part of the Sahara and they are the highest and largest in whole Morocco.
Why Desert Luxury Camp?
Sleeping in the middle of the Sahara desert was always high on our bucket list. As soon as we planned to go to Morocco, finding a magical place to stay was a top priority. Soon there appeared to be a lot of choices. From day trips to round-trip packages from Marrakech. From camel trekkings during sunset to camping overnights in the desert itself. There are many possibilities and prices vary from affordable to extremely expensive. After reading some reviews, we booked at Desert Luxury Camp, a two-night glamping adventure.
Dunes as far as you can see, glamping under open skies with dotted stars, soft sand in all different shades of gold beneath your toes, camel riding with sunrise, watching dramatic sunsets every evening and sipping fresh mint tea around the campfire with some traditional Berber music… For us, it was a dream coming true and a place where the magic happens!
Main camp and private camp
Desert Luxury Camp had two different camps; main camp and private camp. The main camp has 10 king size tents each with private ensuite bathroom. The tents are set up with a tented restaurant that offers delicious Morrocan cuisine. (Which was so good!) It takes the idea of camping but in a way connecting to nature without losing the comforts we’re used to. Even if you love traditional camping, you love glamping here.
The private camp is completely private with 3 king size tents each with private ensuite bathroom. Perfect for honeymooners or small families that are looking for some privacy and unforgettable days in the desert.
The glamping adventure: what’s included
We booked a two-night glamping adventure which included two nights in the main camp, pick-up from Merzouga village to the camp by 4x4WD, breakfast, lunch and a traditional 3-course dinner. In each package they’re offering, are activities like sandboarding, camel rides, guided walking tours, and 4x4WD dune bashing also included.
Stars, milky way, shooting stars, galaxy, you name it. We had the best views ever! We definitely come back someday…
