Vientiane is the biggest city in Laos and one of the most relaxed capital cities in South East Asia. The city is located on the border of Thailand and on the north-eastern bank of the Mekong river where you can have a nice walk along the river or enjoy beautiful sunsets every day. In Vientiane, you have a very wide variety of hotels, guesthouses, and hostels but we listed up our favorites in this article.
Vang Vieng is located between Vientiane and Luang Prabang. Most travelers come to Vang Vieng for it’s famous “tubing”, the beautiful hikes and the many outdoor activities in the surrounding area. This cute charming village surprised us a lot and we recommend you to stay here for at least 2-3 nights. There are a lot of hotels and hostels in Vang Vieng but we can highly recommend these accommodations.
Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, this lovely town will definitely become your favorite destination in Laos. Luang Prabang is a perfect mix of culture, nature, shops, and restaurants surrounded by the mighty Mekong River. Many French colonial buildings are transformed into boutique hotels, charming hostels, and lovely homestays. Count 3-4 days to explore all the beauty in the surrounding area.
If you are taking the slow boat or a luxury cruise along the Mekong River to/from Luang Prabang, this is the town where you’ll spend the night. The Luang Say Lodge has charming wooden bungalows with wonderful Mekong Views. We don’t have a better recommendation for this place. You”ll love it!
